 Post subject: The Dreadsteed Quest
PostPosted: Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:36 am
*****Edit by Siñero*****

With the release of Wrath and the previous patch release, the Dreadsteed Quest Chain is still available to complete, but it is no longer the only way to obtain the fearsome Dreadsteed. You can now learn to summon your Dreadsteed upon hitting Level 60 from a Warlock Trainer.

Some say this change has taken away the 'Epic' feeling of owning a Dreadsteed. Others say this was a necessary change, after all of the gold Warlocks have to spend in the first place. No matter how you feel, Slith's post, below, describes exactly how to complete the still-epc chain of quests.

And now, Slith's guide to obtaining a Dreadsteed! (the Epic way)

~ Siñ

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Having completed the long, expensive quest chain to obtain my Dreadsteed; I thought it would be a good idea to break down each phase of the quest here, with pictures, in hopes of supplying a much easier guide to follow.

First Thing's First:

Upon reaching level 60, you will want to pay a visit to a demon trainer in a capitol city (Kurgul in Orgrimmar for example). A quest from them will ask you to visit a man named Mor'zul Bloodbringer, in the Burning Steppes. His camp is across from the Altar of Storms in the northwestern corner of BS. This man and his apprentice Wildeyes, will be your go-to-guys on a series of long & expensive quests which will eventually pay off in the form of your new [Summon Dreadsteed] spell.

Raging Beast's Blood:

After speaking with Bloodbringer, he will explain that he will need to craft several items in order for you to embrak on the summoning ritual. He'll ask you to first bring him [Raging Beast's Blood]x30, in order to craft ink needed for the parchment. You can obtain this from ANY owlbeast in Winterspring. (I found them just north of Everlook, near the Hidden Grove). Have patience. It is a very slow drop rate. Bring the vials of blood to Wildeyes - he'll get started on that ink for you.

Moontouched, Berserk & Raging Owlbeast will drop the blood.

Lord Banehollow:

Wildeyes will explain one of the needed materials for the ritual is [Xorothian Stardust] which, only happens to be obtainable from a dreadlord names Banehollow, in the depths of Jaedenar in Felwood. As if risking life and limb to reach him was not enough, Wildeyes explains you will need to purchase 3 [Shadowy Potion] from him, which go for about 6g a piece. These potions will make you freindly to the Shadow Council, and, give you a nice purple hue...

Lord Banehollow's Request:

So you've now made your way down into Jaedenar, and are face to face with Banehollow himself.. but the dreadlord is not in the mood for nonsense, and tells you to prove your worth by exterminating his lacky, Ulathek the Traitor, and fetching his heart. An easy kill, you will find him just east of hid lord, in the room at the top of the ramp. Return his heart to the Lord, and you will be able to purchase the dust from the servant to his left at the hefty price of 150g.

Ritual Supplies:

Congratulations, the first quest chain is over. Bring your dust to Wildeyes so he may finish the ink for your parchment. Then, return to Bloodbringer who will explain the three dark materials that will be needed in your ritual, and what it takes to make them (the items will not show up in your inventory):

• Bell of Dethmoora - 2x[Elixir of Shadow Power] - AH, about 10g a piece OR obtain from Alchemist.

• Wheel of the Black March - 6x[Large Brilliant Shard] & 25x[Dark Iron Ore] - Shards: 13g a peice on AH OR obtain from enchanter. Ore: All for 20g on AH OR obtain from miner.

• Doomsday Candle - 3x[Black Dragonscale] - Did not find on AH at all. Bring a skinner with you to farm these from Flametail Wyrmkin in the Burning Steppes. (pic below)

Total Estimated Mat Cost: 120g

Black Lodestone:

As a fail safe item for your ritual, Wildeyes will want to craft a [Black Lodestone] for you to use. This will require an [Arcanite Bar]x1, which you can find in the AH for about 12g (If not, request it from an alchemist). The Lodestone will activate if either your candle, bell or wheel were to fail, at the cost of one soul shard; but we'll get into that later.

An Imp's Purpose:

OK, All of your materials are now crafted. The only thing that remains is to finish that darn parchment! Well.. that's going to take some effort. Wildeye's cannot complete the process here in BS, So he will entrust you with [J'eevee's Jar] which, when taken into Scholomance (A lvl 60+ instance in The Western Plaguelands), will release a small imp who will complete the process for you.

The imp can only be released at the Alchemy table in Scholomance. I suggest reading this Thotbot entry for a more detailed explanation of how to in fact get there and complete this faze: http://thottbot.com/v3236309 REMEMBER to have the key to Scholomance, and the Imp Jar!

Return to Wildeyes:

After the imp has done his job, return him to Wildeyes, where, he will inform you the imp (and some other items) is needed yet again - but for a price this time.

Purchase:

[J'eevee's Jar] - 150g (Reusable)
[Black Lodestone] - 50g (Reusable)
[Xorothian Glyphs] - 50g (Reusable)

Total Mat Cost:250g
IMPORTANT NOTE: Slitharia already has these materials. She can save you the 250g, if you simply ask her to help you complete the ritual.

WHAT?!

Dreadsteed of Xoroth:

Talk to Bloodbringer again, and he will explain that all he can do for you, is now complete. The rest is up to you. He will hand over the directions in the form of [Mor'zul's Instructions]. Read the book carefully, as every step of the ritual is explained within it's pages... You will discover your destination now, is Dire Maul.

Dire Maul:

Before you do anything, make sure either you, or a group member has the Crescent Key, to let yourselves into the instance. Also, you should take players level 60-70 with you, and don't forget to have at least 20 soul shards (the more the better) and the materials needed for the ritual.

Your destination is Dire Maul - West. The map to which is here, on the bottom left corner of the image: http://www.worldofwar.net/wiki/Dire_Maul_Map

You will need to get to the Altar of Immol'Thar, and inevitably kill him. Before doing so, I suggest 2 things. 1: Break all 5 pylons found in the West wing of Dire Maul. These will release Immol'Thar from his prison, allowing you to complete the ritual. 2: Accept the quest to in fact kill Immol'Thar from the Shen'dralar Ancient in the Courtyard.

You will find 2 Pylons in the courtyard, 1 in the entrance of Dire Maul- West, and 2 back down around the prison of Immol'Thar. Once they have been broken, Kill Immol'Thar. (I suggest pulling him out of the circle, since, as you can see from the photos below, he'll body will stay there while you try to do your ritual, making it a little hard to keep an eye on your items.

The Ritual:

With Immol'Thar dead, you can now start your ritual. Release the imp from his jar, and he will set up your 3 items. Be prepared as a flood of demons will storm the circle. If an item fails, run to it's pylon and use a soul shard to restart it. Keep an eye on the purple circle forming on the altar's floor, when it is complete, the ritual will be done. Heal up now.

The ritual begins..

The Dreadsteed Emerges:

Once healed, and ready to fight again, activate your [Xorothian Glyphs] which will call forth both the dreadsteed and lord you will now have to fight. Take them down, and then triumphantly talk to the fallen horse's spirit. He will whisper the spell to you.

Defeated Dreadsteed

Congratulations!:

You will now know how to summon your Dreadsteed. Ride it with honor and pride, as you and your friends will know just how hard it was to obtain the beast. A true mark of honor for any lock, enjoy.

SUCCESS!

Total Estimated Quest Spending: 540g
Total Estimated Quest Spending w/ Other lock having Jar, Stone & Glyphs: 290g

I hope this little guide helps. ;D If you seek any more tips, I suggest visiting this page: http://www.wowwiki.com/Dreadsteed

Thanks to everyone who helped me get MY Dreadsteed. <3

An awesome guide, indeed! It was a lot of fun getting you that steed, despite how lame Dire Maul is, haha!

Remember, guildies, Slith has those last three materials and can save you 250 gold from this chain of quests. When you get to the Dreadsteed chain, we'll be more than happy to help!

That reminds me... I'm at 70 and I still have that big fluffy bird to ride. I'd better get cracking!

Thanks to Hemiam (Brasticus' main) and Goldilocks, Triplehelix and I were finally able to acquire our very own Dreadsteed, and here are the shots to prove it!

Upon whooping the steed and it's demon owner, Trip and I had a nice long chat with the horse. Funny enough, he's related to Mr. Ed, because as we all know, he was the only horse that could talk.
Image

Once the conversation was over, we all decided to have a little Hearth party around the steed's corpse. Mr. Dreadsteed was not very happy with us, but what was he going to do anyway? Strut right through us?
Image

And there is it, Siñ's dreadsteed. I took my first 'victory lap' around Silvermoon.
Image

Thanks Goldi, and Hem, for helping Trip and I join in on the Dreadsteed fun! Goldi, when you're ready, we'll get you that steed :D

Good Luck Dar! We're here to help. Let us know when you're ready to head to Dire Maul for the summoning.

When it's time to buy the three relics (the last step before going to DM), don't buy them. Both Slith and myself have the three relics needed at the ritual inside of Dire Maul. Just come to DM loaded with Soul Shards and we'll take care of the actual ritual for you.
